There's nothing more we love than brands with a great story, high-quality products & strong visual language that ties everything together. And Koeka definitely is one of those labels. We are so excited to be able to have selected pieces from them available. Everything from towels to clothing to accessories is made sustainably and you can feel the love and attention to detail come through. Below you can find a little brand story and an interview we did with Koeka.
Koeka is a brand that originated in the Netherlands, and was set up in 1998 by Margareth de Haas and Jeannette Kraaijeveld. Right from the start, Margareth and Jeannette had a clear vision of the types of design they intended to produce. Not only did their products need to be functional for children, as well as for their parents, but they had to coordinate well with the design of the room. From the beginning, the company’s collection included signature styles made from terry cloth. Koeka has become a fully-fledged lifestyle brand, with a collection featuring more than 125 unique products in a wide range of colours for babies, kids and the home.
What inspires the collections? Is there a different inspiration for each season or are there underlying themes you come back to season after season?
Every season we get inspired by a new theme, this way you innovate and stay creative. A theme or concept can create a synergy in the designs and a clear vibe for the shoot. Sometimes we go for summer memories like picking berries in the field or for example upcoming winter we got inspired by the pictures of warm & cosy Inuit children.
We always follow or hearts but some themes make their return every season like nature, simplicity, comfort & safety. Those are the unique brand themes for Koeka. The collection will also be a compliment to our NOS (never out of stock) collection so you can mix & match everything.
What can we expect from the next season?
For the next seasons concept, we created a little conceptual story like we do every season.
It's early December in a tiny Arctic town of Alaska, the snow is swirling.
Yuka the little Inuit girl is carried on mama’s back, in the warm hood of her traditional parka.
The winter will be long and freezing, it’s all about keeping each other warm and safe, wrapping up against the cold, collecting firewood, hunt and fish.
Koeka Fall Winter 2020 is a poetic collection inspired by the traditional Inuit lifestyle. Magical moonlight and misty landscapes are translated to a frozen color palette. The wintery fabrics are warm and soft; corduroy, teddy and knitwear with crafted details.
Let’s make it a cosy winter and stick together, like snow does.
What does sustainability mean for Koeka?
We are really proud of the quality of Koeka products, we often receive compliments that our products remain after washing very often. This makes Koeka sustainable. Also, step by step we create more and more collections made of organic cotton. Since last year we produce our signature terry collection Dijon in organic cotton.
Best way to spend a summer day with the little one(s)?
The best way to start a day with the little one according to Koeka is to take the time for each other and little things. Enjoy small activities to the fullest like eating homemade icecream while the sunbeams brighten your face.
